Hi 👋

Thank you for considering reviewing an NGC Map Tutorial. Your support is greatly appreciated and significantly contributes to the quality of the content we publish. Here are some guidelines on how you can review the NGC Map Tutorial.

How to review using Google Docs

Open the Google Docs link of the submitted tutorial. Then, on the top right ↗️ of your screen, switch to “Suggesting” mode.

Once this is selected, every modification you make will appear as a suggestion. The author will be able to accept or refuse your suggestions. All suggestions will stay in the “Version history” tab, even if refused.

Instead of suggestions, you can also add comments. Highlight any text, and click on the “Add comment” button that appears on the right.

What to review

Your review ensures that the NCG Map Tutorials remain accurate and of good quality. Your input is therefore very valuable.

While we ask you to highlight and correct any problematic part of the submitted tutorial, you are not expected to provide feedback at an academic standard. We want the NGC Map Tutorials to remain accessible to the readers and the writers. That means that the language should be accessible to non-academic people and to non-native English speakers.

Please write your feedback in a constructive way, with suggestions of improvements. Do not only highlight incorrect parts – please suggest a way to correct them.

Here are the main aspects of the tutorials you can review. Of course, the focus will depend on the type of tutorials: some tutorials are simply practical and therefore easier to review (how to use a specific tool in a software), but some can include sensitive topics where a deeper review is required.

Accuracy of the information

That’s where your feedback is the most important! We want to make sure that someone has checked the accuracy of the information in the tutorial. Mistakes can, of course, happen, and that’s why a second view is important. Please edit or comment on any false information.

Writing

We would appreciate your feedback on the way the tutorial is written. As mentioned, the tutorial should be accessible and easy to follow. So, please comment if some parts could be more concise, or if some phrasing could be changed in order to make the language more accessible.

Sources

Important sources should be mentioned in the NGC Map Tutorial. However, we don’t expect every sentence to be backed up by a source, like in a scientific paper. We try to find a good balance.

Other suggestions

Feel free to make any other suggestions that come to your mind!

What to keep in mind while reviewing

  1. Do not rewrite the whole tutorial. You should not denature or take ownership of the original writing of the text.
  2. Maintain a respectful tone of voice. Mistakes can happen, please stay kind!
  3. Give constructive feedback. When something is wrong, try to explain why and provide suggestions.

Important: If something written in the original submission makes you uncomfortable, or if you are unsure about how to deal with a sensitive piece of content, please reach out to us:

Thank you!
