We are launching NGC Map Tutorials!
We are excited to announce the start of our NGC initiative: NGC Map Tutorials, a free and accessible tutorial library for map-makers, where you can contribute!
For example:
- How to apply a water texture?
- How do I evaluate the quality of a dataset?
- What is an appropriate way to label Indigenous lands?
There are already existing blogs that list resources and tutorials related to map-making. But our tutorial library is unique by focusing on:
- Bottom-up approach: You define the topics. The library will reflect the topics on which you are interested and skilled.
- Accessible language: The tutorials should be accessible to anyone making maps. That means, for example, that they are written in an easy English language (understandable by non-native speakers) and non-academic language.
- Applied knowledge: The tutorials provide knowledge that can be applied by the readers.
- The target group is cartographers and non-cartographers who make maps: That means, people who are not necessarily familiar with cartography theory and principles, but who make maps.
And anyone can write a tutorial! Once published, we will advertise it on our platforms. The process is easy, you will find all the details on our how-to-contribute page. We encourage any perspective on any map-related topic to be submitted.
Let us know if you have any questions or comments. We are looking forward to receiving your tutorials!
