NGC goes #30DayMapChallenge 2026

2026-10-05T00:00:00.000Z

Welcome to the NGC’s #30DayMapChallenge! Last year we started a fun experiment: we joined forces within our NGC community for the #30DayMapChallenge ✨🗺️ Honestly, we think it was great fun (see here for a visual recap), so this year we’re planning to do it again. The idea is the following: You sign up for a day/topic (or a couple of them), you create an awesome map, post it on LinkedIn, and we repost your map. Done! 🙌

So what’s the process?

You can sign up for a topic here. In the 2nd sheet of this document, there’s a list where you can enter the date and your name; the topic will fill automatically. If there’s already someone else who will create a map for this day – no problem. It’s not the goal to have exactly one map per day, or even to tick a box for each of the 30 days. The main goal is to create maps, have fun while doing so, support each other, and learn from each other. So just sign up for the day(s) you’re most interested in 🙂 On the Overview sheet, you can see all the topics and who already signed up.

On the day of your map, post your map on LinkedIn and tag us (@Next Generation Cartographers), so we can repost your map.

If you feel like it, you can also add our NGC logo to your map (no obligation!).

And what about the community?

We aim to make the #30DayMapChallenge an enjoyable team effort (instead of a perhaps scary solo marathon). To do so, we have two things in place:

  • A dedicated Discord channel where you can get feedback, motivation, and perhaps ideas if you’re stuck
  • A community meet-up on December 3rd to meet online and share with each other what we have achieved together during this year’s challenge.

Next Steps

  • Sign up for a day and topic in our Google Sheet
  • Join our Discord channel (voluntary but recommended)
  • Create your map and post it on LinkedIn, tag us
  • Join our community meet-up on December 3rd and talk about your map (voluntary)

FAQ

Someone already signed-up for the day/topic I wanted to submit a map. What should I do?

It’s totally fine to have multiple people signed up for the same day/topic. Simply copy the respective row in the google sheet and add your name! That’s it. We will make sure to repost all submissions on LinkedIn.

Are there any requirements for the maps I want to submit?

There is only one, but it is important: all the maps need to adhere to our Code of Conduct.

I want to get feedback and/or share my maps or the process. Where can I do this?

That’s exactly what our dedicated Discord channel is for. Join our Discord server and find 30DayMapChallenge enthusiasts in our #30day-map-challenge channel. This is also where all communication from our side about the map challenge will take place, so it’s highly recommended to join and check for updates frequently.

What happens to the maps I publish on LinkedIn for the NGC 30DayMapChallenge?

We will repost them from our NGC LinkedIn account, and we will publish them on our Website, similar to last year’s maps. If you do not want your maps to be published on our website, please inform us by 30 November 2026 by emailing ester.scheck@geo.tuwien.ac.at.

Happy Mapping 🗺️🙂
